About the position

The Sr. SQL DBA position at Leidos involves supporting the Defense Enclave Services (DES) team in managing data system services and operations critical to DISA and Fourth Estate Agencies. The role focuses on ensuring data security, integrity, and performance optimization within a complex IT environment, contributing to a significant IT consolidation and modernization effort.

Responsibilities

• Maintain the overall structure of data assets, including data models, data dictionaries, and data flow diagrams.
• Ensure data security and integrity, including DOD STIG knowledge.
• Perform performance tuning and optimization of NIPR/SIPR MSSQL/MySQL databases.
• Conduct database capacity planning, security, and auditing for STIG compliance.
• Analyze business processes and procedures, making recommendations for system/software solutions.
• Provide Tier 3 Microsoft SQL Server support, solving complex issues with sound solutions.
• Apply best practices for tuning SQL databases to improve overall system performance.
• Support software development and testing throughout the software development lifecycle, including incremental script execution and defect resolution.
• Review proposed database structure changes and gain approval for modifications based on best practices.
• Research interfaces to identify and code required updates for integration support.
• Ensure software releases are fully supported and gain approvals before implementing changes into the production environment.
• Create and maintain all SQL databases required for development, testing, and production usage.
• Control migrations of programs, database changes, reference data changes, and menu changes through the development lifecycle.
• Establish standards to ensure application design and code integrity, security, and performance; perform frequent reviews to ensure adherence to site standards.
• Plan and assist application developers and system administrators to minimize impact during new SQL product releases or upgrades.
• Troubleshoot all problems regarding SQL databases, applications, and development tools.

Requirements

• Bachelor's degree and 12+ years of prior relevant experience; additional years of relevant experience may be accepted in lieu of a degree.
• Tier 3 MS SQL Server support experience.
• Ability to solve complex problems and present solutions to leadership.
• Must hold current DoD 8570 IAT2 certification Security+ CE or higher.

Nice-to-haves

• Strong oral, written, interpersonal, and organizational skills.
• Experience with MS SQL versions 2000, 2005, 2008R2, 2016.
• Experience with Oracle Database.
