About the position

The Senior SQL Server Performance Database Administrator will work closely with various IT teams to optimize application and database performance for a large healthcare insurance provider. This role requires hands-on experience in large-scale environments with high transaction volumes, focusing on advanced database development and administration tasks.

Responsibilities

• Work directly with IT associates to optimize application/database performance.
• Provide advanced database development experience with Microsoft SQL Server.
• Support senior-level database administration tasks including installation, upgrading, backup and recovery, and performance tuning.
• Evaluate SQL Server query performance and provide guidance on query redesign and index modifications.
• Utilize tools like Idera SQL Diagnostic Monitor and SQL Server Profiler for database tuning.
• Create SQL Server performance documentation and best practices for teams.
• Participate in evaluations and recommendations for database solutions based on business requirements.
• Monitor and measure database components for performance and capacity planning.
• Escalate technical issues as required.
• Participate in database tuning efforts as needed.

Requirements

• BA/BS in Computer Science, Information Systems, or related field, or equivalent experience.
• Industry-recognized technical certification preferred (e.g., SQL, MCDBA).
• Ten or more years of related IT experience as a SQL Server database administrator.
• Working knowledge of database file structure, retrieval methods, and performance analysis.
• Demonstrated analytical skills and excellent communication skills.
• Basic understanding of the development and business processes.

Nice-to-haves

• Experience with Java programming.
• Familiarity with Mule is a plus.
