About the position

The position involves working closely with customers to manage SSD debug and qualification requirements in collaboration with SMI Engineering Teams. The role is focused on driving technical design-in/-win and addressing hardware, firmware, and other platform-related barriers to adoption. This includes interfacing with customers and internal platform partners to resolve product issues and leveraging those learnings to shape future product definitions, particularly for controllers and firmware. The individual will evangelize the technical benefits of SMI Enterprise controllers and various business models at the platform level, creating a preference for SMI products within the platform and enabling customer and end-user adoption of solutions. Additionally, the role supports the ecosystem and tools that drive controller solution adoption. Key responsibilities include executing technical product qualifications, creating customer-specific competitive analyses, conducting end-user visits with OEM/ODM partners, and developing and presenting technical product content. The individual will advocate for technical customer needs to internal stakeholders and drive internal teams to meet customer expectations. Collaboration with the sales team to resolve technical questions is also essential. The role requires participation in customer meetings and presentations, acting as a technical adviser, consultant, analyst, and program manager for customer technical interactions in collaboration with SMI PM teams. The AE will support customer requests or events as they arise, developing solutions to problems using formal education and judgment. Establishing strong relationships with customers and partners is crucial to delivering results and achieving team business objectives in the data center and enterprise segments. The position also requires the ability to summarize technical concepts, create collateral, and deliver top-ranked technical training to both small and large audiences of technical domain experts. International travel is required, up to 20%, and the ability to assist in system design reviews and analyze/solve hardware system problems is necessary.

Responsibilities

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering, Computer Science, or related fields.
  • At least 5 years of work experience in configuring, optimizing, and testing server, storage system, or other complex system products.
  • Experience working with suppliers and/or customers to clarify requirements, manage expectations, and resolve complex engineering or customer engagement challenges.
  • Knowledge of compute and/or storage system hardware and/or software using both Windows and Linux-based operating systems in the data center/enterprise.
  • Familiarity with HDD/SSD systems/protocols and/or SAS/SATA/PCIe (NVMe).
  • Experience debugging platform/system issues that may be hardware, firmware, driver, BIOS, and/or application related.
  • Familiarity with datacenter architecture and interfaces, PCIe switches, RAID controllers, HBAs, expanders, and JBODs/JBOFs.
  • Knowledge of SSD hardware and firmware architecture.
  • Familiarity with the electrical system design and PCB layout philosophy of SSDs.
  • Microsoft and Linux datacenter OS debug experience.
  • Fluent in reading and writing Mandarin preferred.
