About the position
The Senior Accountant performs general accounting functions for the department and works closely with other members of the Accounting Team. This role provides supervision of personnel and leads within the department when the manager/supervisor is unavailable. The Senior Accountant is knowledgeable of GAAP principles and, for Hospital Accounting roles, OSHPD guidelines for financial preparation.
Responsibilities
- Completes account analyses, bank reconciliations, and other schedules in a consistent and timely manner, researches and identifies anomalies and provides report to management.
- Reviews designated accounts for reasonableness and accuracy, evaluates and makes necessary adjustments prior to period end.
- Completes Journal Entries in accurate and timely manner, ensuring appropriate accounts are recorded to, entries balance and adequate supporting documentation.
- Serves as subject matter expert for Journal Entries, reviews Journal Entries prepared by others for accuracy.
- Prepares monthly and quarterly Sales Tax reporting.
- Performs special analyses and research as requested for departments and/or vendor questions, annual audits, cost reports, tax reporting, Fixed Asset management and/or Cash.
- Performs other duties as assigned.
Requirements
- Bachelor's Degree in related field or equivalent work experience
- Minimum of 5 years' accounting experience
- Working knowledge of general ledger systems
- Demonstrated ability to lead others
