About the position

As a Senior Staff Data Scientist for Ecosystem at Pinterest, you will play a pivotal role in shaping the future of both people-facing and business-facing products. Your expertise in quantitative modeling, experimentation, and algorithms will be essential in addressing some of the most complex engineering challenges the company faces. You will collaborate with a diverse set of cross-functional partners, including Product, Engineering, Design, Research, Product Analytics, and Data Engineering, to tackle a wide array of product and business problems. The results of your work will not only influence product development teams but also introduce greater scientific rigor into the real-world products that serve hundreds of millions of users, including pinners, creators, advertisers, and merchants globally. In this role, you will be responsible for building a deeper understanding of the Pinterest ecosystem. You will work closely with Core and Monetization leadership, requiring a senior-level individual who can effectively navigate and influence across various teams and organizations. You will develop and own the roadmap of projects aimed at understanding the implications of product evolution and the resulting changes in user behavior. This includes developing metrics and identifying opportunities to enhance the overall user experience while guiding other individual contributors as they work on these initiatives. Your projects may involve understanding user journeys across the funnel, identifying opportunities to deepen engagement with inspirational content, developing proxy metrics and early indicators of engagement and retention, and analyzing the relationship between engagement metrics and monetization. You will also explore the value of different user actions and how to model them in utility and reward functions, as well as identify levers to move enterprise metrics. Furthermore, you will establish best practices for instrumentation and experimentation, communicating these to product engineering teams to help fulfill Pinterest's mission of inspiring users to create a life they love. By applying scientific rigor and statistical methods to product creation, development, and improvement, you will advocate for changes where necessary to enhance product development. Your role will also involve building and prototyping analysis pipelines iteratively to provide insights at scale, while developing a comprehensive understanding of data structures and metrics. Collaboration with product managers, engineers, designers, and researchers will be key to building the next experiences on Pinterest.
