About the position

The Sr Staff DevOps Engineer at Palo Alto Networks is responsible for enhancing and maintaining the software development, testing, and live infrastructure. This role requires a self-motivated individual with a strong background in Linux and experience in a fast-paced development environment. The engineer will collaborate closely with development, technical operations, quality assurance, and product management teams to deliver robust technical solutions for both customers and internal teams, emphasizing the importance of Infrastructure as Code.

Responsibilities

  • Support and deploy mission-critical front-end and back-end production systems.
  • Improve site performance, monitoring, and overall stability of the infrastructure.
  • Interact with engineering teams to support, maintain, and design backend infrastructure for product support.
  • Automate deployment, customization, upgrades, and monitoring through DevOps tools for cloud management.
  • Build, deploy, and maintain the cloud environment as a primary focus.
  • Utilize automation in daily functions, requiring familiarity with Unix Bourne shell scripting and Python.
  • Participate in 24x7 operation support and on-call rotation.

Requirements

  • 5+ years of experience in a related field with a BS or MS in Computer Science or equivalent.
  • Experience in production environment engineering, configuration management, and release engineering.
  • Excellent development experience with bash and Python.
  • Strong knowledge of Linux systems administration and architecture.
  • Proficient in working with AWS and/or GCP in a highly available and scalable production environment.
  • Experience managing web servers, specifically nginx.
  • Familiarity with continuous integration and deployment automation tools such as Jenkins, Ansible, and GIT.
  • Experience with containers and Kubernetes.
  • Experience in building and deploying monitoring solutions like Prometheus and Kibana.
  • Ability to document processes, labs, and test environments.
