About the position

The Sr. Staff Embedded Software Architect at Northrop Grumman is a pivotal role focused on leading the development of embedded software for military applications, particularly in the area of Software Defined Receivers (SDR). This position involves collaborating with various government R&D organizations to innovate and enhance navigation and timing technologies, utilizing advanced software engineering practices and methodologies. The architect will be responsible for shaping cutting-edge systems that support critical national defense products, driving the digital transformation of the organization, and fostering a culture of innovation and teamwork.

Responsibilities

  • Architect and develop embedded software platforms utilizing C, C++, Ada or related languages for Software Defined Receivers.
  • Lead a software team and collaborate with navigation and timing experts to advance state-of-the-art technologies.
  • Apply research and development skills to create real-world products and capabilities.
  • Collaborate closely with government R&D organizations such as DARPA and AFRL to develop advanced technologies.
  • Present ideas to internal and external groups, lead proposal activities, and represent Northrop Grumman at technical conferences.

Requirements

  • Master of Science in a STEM discipline and a minimum of 12 years of relevant experience, or Ph.D. in a STEM discipline with a minimum of 9 years of relevant experience.
  • US Citizenship and ability to obtain and maintain a DoD Secret clearance.
  • Demonstrated experience developing embedded software utilizing C, C++, Ada or related languages (typically 10+ years).
  • Experience with Green Hills Integrity Real-time Operating Systems, board support package (BSP), and Wind River VxWorks RTOS/BSP for C/C++ development.
  • Expert knowledge of signal selection, acquisition and tracking, Position, Velocity, and Time (PVT) calculation, and related applications.

Nice-to-haves

  • Ph.D. in Aerospace Engineering or Computer Engineering with a minimum of 12 years of relevant experience.
  • Experience as a Team Lead, Technical Lead, or Subject Matter Expert (SME).
  • Familiarity with Agile lifecycle processes including Scrum and Continuous Integration.
  • Experience with military GPS modernization and M-code signal processing.
