About the position

The Senior Staff Pharmacist at Houston Methodist is responsible for providing comprehensive, patient-oriented pharmacy services, including proactive patient profile reviews, discharge counseling, and medication histories. This role involves collaboration with the healthcare team to ensure effective pharmaceutical care, mentoring pharmacy staff, and participating in departmental projects to enhance patient safety and care quality.

Responsibilities

  • Provide day-to-day comprehensive pharmacy services including order processing and therapy review.
  • Participate in clinical functions such as discharge counseling and medication histories.
  • Serve as a role model and preceptor for pharmacy staff and students.
  • Collaborate with healthcare professionals to manage drug therapy and monitor patient outcomes.
  • Develop educational materials and programs for pharmacy staff and hospital personnel.
  • Monitor workload and adjust assignments for pharmacy technicians to ensure timely medication delivery.
  • Participate in quality management activities and medication safety initiatives.

Requirements

  • Graduate of an education program approved by the credentialing body for required certifications.
  • Successful completion of an ASHP-accredited PGY1 residency or three years of relevant pharmacist experience.
  • One year of experience precepting pharmacy students or residents.
  • Texas Pharmacist license or eligibility within 90 days.
  • Pharmacist Preceptor Certification within 90 days.
  • Neonatal Resuscitation certification within 90 days if applicable.
  • IV Certification within 90 days if applicable.
  • Basic Life Support certification within 90 days.

Nice-to-haves

  • Experience with advanced pharmacy technology and medical information systems.
  • Strong organizational and multitasking skills.
  • Proficiency in MS Office and EMR software.
