About the position

The Senior Staff Software Development Engineer in Test (SDET) is a hands-on lead role responsible for overseeing a small team of SDETs and test engineers. This position focuses on all aspects of test automation, including web, mobile, API, microservice, and white box testing. The SDET will contribute to the success of Alkami by delivering tools and automation-driven testing for the company's evolving platform and applications, ensuring high-quality omni-channel applications.

Responsibilities

  • Guide the work of a group of SDETs in one or more functional areas, overseeing all aspects of test automation.
  • Review source code for potential problems, help debug and triage issues, and isolate fixes.
  • Conduct tool analysis, create proof of concept models, and make recommendations for tool selection.
  • Analyze, recommend, and implement industry best practices for coding guidelines, peer reviews, and CI/CD processes.
  • Participate in reviews of technical specifications and program code, communicating design and functionality to the team.
  • Promote quality engineering processes and standards across teams.
  • Enable CI/CD integration for automated test suites and ensure proper test reporting and quality gates are enforced.
  • Collaborate with other teams for successful delivery of new system features and proactively identify quality issues.
  • Design and document comprehensive test strategies and standard operating procedures to improve test automation efficiency.
  • Triage customer issues, analyze production metrics, and provide root cause analysis to engineers.
  • Provide guidance to SDETs and monitor the success of their work.
  • Lead the maintenance of test environments and ensure consistency with staging/production configurations.

Requirements

  • Proficient in coding with knowledge of object-oriented programming, data structures, and system architecture in languages such as C#, Java, Python, or JavaScript.
  • Expert in testing tools like Selenium, Cypress, Appium, and RestAssured for various testing types.
  • Proven track record in evaluating tools and frameworks, setting best practices, and coding guidelines.
  • Experience in setting up Git workflows and build automation tools, and establishing automated quality gates.
  • Expert in building test strategies and automation strategies for various test types.
  • Working knowledge of Agile/DevOps methodologies and relational/non-relational databases.
  • Experience with white box testing techniques and performance testing practices.
  • Knowledge of different API architectures and UI concepts, including microservices and event-driven architectures.
  • Experience in designing and improving test workflows and processes.

  • Passionate about system design and architecture with depth in automation and test strategies.
  • Experience coaching teams and evaluating SDET candidates.
