About the position

The Senior Staff Software Architect at Abbott will provide technical leadership within a high-performing software and firmware development team focused on redefining the treatment of structural heart disease. This role involves building a product ecosystem of novel devices, influencing cross-functionally within the organization, and serving as an individual contributor in key areas of risk and novelty.

Responsibilities

  • Provide technical leadership and influence within the software and firmware development team.
  • Lead on a systems level to build out a product ecosystem of novel devices.
  • Work cross-functionally and exercise influence across the organization.
  • Translate high-level business objectives into tactical plans and allocate tasks to the software team.
  • Develop, author, test, and manage software requirements.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in Software Engineering, Computer Science, Electrical Engineering or similar; Master's degree/PhD preferred.
  • Minimum 10 years of industry experience in software development (7+ years with Master's, 2+ years with PhD).
  • A track record of increasing scope, complexity, and technical leadership.
  • Ability to communicate and influence at all levels within the organization.
  • Experience in developing, authoring, testing, and managing software requirements.
  • Fluency in common coding languages such as C, C#, C++, JavaScript.
  • Knowledge and application of systems engineering principles.
  • Strong familiarity with a variety of development tools (IDEs, configuration management systems, debuggers, unit test frameworks).

Nice-to-haves

  • Experience in the sequential phases of medical device development from early feasibility to post-market support.
  • Familiarity with development methods/frameworks such as Waterfall, Agile, Spiral.
  • Experience in developing Class B and C medical device software subject to IEC 62304.
  • Experience in developing devices that work together as a product ecosystem with multiple connectivity stacks.
  • Linux OS configuration and cybersecurity hardening experience.
  • Experience in the use of requirements management tools like DOORS, JAMA, or Cognition Cockpit.
