About the position

The Sr. Staff Systems Engineer Bus Lead will take on a leadership role within the GEOStar-3 Product Line, overseeing a multi-discipline team responsible for the design, development, and integration of spacecraft bus systems for national security space programs. This position requires a self-directed individual with extensive experience in aerospace systems and spacecraft subsystems, who can manage technical issues while ensuring project timelines and budgets are met. The role involves interfacing with various stakeholders and preparing technical materials for major reviews.

Responsibilities

  • Lead and manage a multi-disciplinary team of subsystem engineering leads in the design, development and integration of the spacecraft bus
  • Lead and critique space vehicle design and analysis efforts
  • Conceive and develop solutions to complex analytical, design, and test problems that the program may experience
  • Develop and provide input to the Program Systems Engineering Management Plan
  • Act as the spacecraft chief technical interface at all scheduled program meetings and reviews
  • Manage technical aspects of payload interfaces and major bus subcontracted program elements
  • Plan and conduct all contractual spacecraft technical reviews
  • Ensure the spacecraft design satisfies all requirements and interface specifications
  • Write monthly status and technical performance reviews and reports
  • Mentor, guide, direct and advise junior staff

Requirements

  • B.S. in STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering, Math) or related area and 14+ years of experience; Master's degree and 12+ years of experience, or PhD and 10+ years of experience
  • Experience in space systems design, development, manufacture, or test, including 5 years of technical or project leadership positions
  • Ability to lead a diverse team of subsystem leads and system engineers
  • Ability to develop and manage system interfaces to integrate multi-element systems
  • Ability to translate program objectives and customer requirements into system requirements
  • Experience in requirements development and management processes
  • Experience in development and maintenance of interface control documents and related processes
  • Must have a current or active Top Secret Clearance at time of application

Nice-to-haves

  • Active or current TS/SCI Clearance
  • Knowledge and experience with satellite functions including attitude control, power management, thermal control, propulsion, command and data handling, flight and ground software
  • Experience in space system testing and evaluation (flight and ground testing)
  • Experience with Mission Operations for spacecraft
  • Knowledge of Launch Vehicles, System Safety, System Reliability, Contamination Control, EMI, Space Environments, and Human Factors
