As a Senior Strategic Sourcing Specialist, you will play a crucial role in sourcing strategic activities, particularly those related to product life cycle and supplier management. This includes managing product/part phase in-phase, overseeing Last Time Buy processes, and addressing strategic and excess & obsolete processes. You will also be involved in local sourcing initiatives, supplier delivery performance, and inventory management. Your responsibilities will extend to supporting commodity management in pricing, terms & conditions, and quality agreements with key strategic suppliers. Based at Medtronic's manufacturing site in Irvine, CA, you will act as the Operations Sourcing liaison, collaborating closely with Site Operations, Planning, Quality, and Finance teams to resolve supply-related issues for the facility. This position requires you to be onsite in Irvine, CA, four days a week. In this role, you will foster and maintain strong relationships with various stakeholders, including Suppliers, Operations Scheduling, Supply Network Planning, Supplier Quality Engineering, Manufacturing, Finance, and Operations Quality. You will attend in-plant production meetings to report on key material issues, participate in Tier Escalation Meetings, and develop tools to identify and mitigate future component shortage risks. Effective communication about unmitigated component shortages will be essential to ensure operational mitigations are implemented, minimizing operational impact. You will also monitor and manage Strategic Inventory Purchases and Last Time Buys, provide updates on Purchase Price Variance reports, and collaborate with shared services to ensure supply continuity.

Responsibilities

  • Participate and/or lead sourcing strategic activities related to product life cycle and supplier management.
  • Manage product/part phase in-phase and Last Time Buy processes.
  • Oversee strategic and excess & obsolete processes and local sourcing initiatives.
  • Support commodity management in pricing, terms & conditions, and quality agreements with key suppliers.
  • Act as the Operations Sourcing liaison, collaborating with various internal teams to resolve supply-related issues.
  • Attend in-plant production meetings to report on key material issues and updates.
  • Participate in Tier Escalation Meetings with Functional and Site Leaders.
  • Develop and utilize tools to identify and mitigate future component shortage risks.
  • Communicate effectively about unmitigated component shortages to stakeholders.
  • Attend Master Production Schedule consensus meetings and relay changes to Suppliers.
  • Monitor and manage Strategic Inventory Purchases and Last Time Buys, maintaining tracking files.
  • Provide updates on the Purchase Price Variance report and maintain the inventory reserve file.
  • Collaborate with shared services to track the completion of projects ensuring supply continuity.
  • Support audits by initiating supplier selection-related audits and providing site support for regulatory body audits.
  • Manage or support supplier capacity management initiatives.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree required plus a minimum of 4 years of relevant supply chain experience, or advanced degree with a minimum of 2 years relevant supply chain experience.
  • Expert understanding and experience with integrated manufacturing software systems.
  • Working knowledge of Demand Flow, JIT, K-Loop, Lean Manufacturing.
  • Experience in leading and influencing negotiations, project management, troubleshooting and problem-solving analysis, strategic thinking, and collaborative team building.
  • Exposure to supply chain, planning, purchasing, materials, and inventory control environment.
  • Solid computer skills, including Microsoft Outlook, Excel, Word, PowerPoint, and Project, with advanced Excel knowledge (vlookup, pivot tables, formulas, macros).
