About the position

As a Structural Certification Engineer at Collins Aerospace, you will oversee the FAA certification process for commercial aircraft seats and seating components. This role involves conducting research, planning, and executing certification procedures to ensure safety and performance standards are met. You will collaborate with cross-functional teams and represent the Certification and Structures team in design reviews, making a significant impact on aviation safety and innovation.

Responsibilities

  • Oversee the FAA certification process for commercial aircraft seats and seating components.
  • Perform standard engineering assignments representing a significant portion of larger projects.
  • Select engineering techniques to solve problems and make design decisions.
  • Compile FAA certification documentation for submission to commercial aircraft OEMs and regulatory agencies.
  • Review and approve design changes from a certification perspective.
  • Support design optimization tasks, such as weight reduction.
  • Lead test activities including static and component level testing.
  • Participate as the certification representative in integrated project teams for various engineering projects.
  • Develop and prepare test plans, reports, and communicate with regulatory agencies for compliance showings.
  • Ensure successful completion of assigned project phases within budgeted time and cost constraints.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in Mechanical, Aerospace, or Civil Engineering and 5 years of relevant experience, or an Advanced degree and 3 years in the appropriate discipline.
  • Ability to perform classical stress analysis.
  • Familiarity with strengths of standard aviation materials.
  • Prior working experience in the aerospace industry, specifically with aircraft interiors.
  • Prior experience reviewing and approving drawings.
  • Familiarity and/or experience with structural finite element analysis (FEA) methods and modeling applications.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills, including the ability to prepare and give presentations.
  • Demonstrated ability to work effectively with team members and cross-functional teams.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite applications and engineering-related software programs.

  • Experience with advanced aerospace materials and their applications.
