About the position

The Sr Structural Design Engineer at Blue Origin will lead the design and development of the New Glenn Second Stage Tanks projects, focusing on advancing new space capabilities. This role involves overseeing a specialized team of engineers, driving the structural design of propellant tanks and internal structures, and ensuring alignment with program management goals. The position emphasizes collaboration, technical expertise, and leadership in shaping the future of space exploration.

Responsibilities

  • Drive the structural design and configuration of propellant tanks, internal structures, and interfaces.
  • Perform detailed design, analysis, development, and testing of primary and secondary structures directly exposed to cryogenic liquids.
  • Generate 3D models, detailed part drawings, assemblies, installations, and interface control documents to both internal and customer specifications.
  • Work across business units and functional organizations within Blue Origin to meet project deliverables, acting as a liaison between various internal/external business partners.
  • Execute effective supplier management and coordination with supply chain teams, including planning and negotiations.
  • Develop project summary presentations and memos for executive review and internal team meetings.
  • Maintain and report performance to plan on schedule, resources, cost, and technical performance metrics.
  • Participate in subsystem test planning, execution, data reduction, and analysis.
  • Coach, mentor, and technically assist junior engineers; provide technical mentorship for integration.
  • Provide on-site manufacturing and production support, including travel when needed.

Requirements

  • Minimum of a B.S. in an aerospace, mechanical, or systems engineering-related field.
  • 8+ years of related experience in aerospace development.
  • Program and technical leadership experience in an aerospace development environment.
  • Experience in full lifecycle development of aerospace systems, designing, deploying, and supporting complete flight systems.
  • Highly organized leader with excellent technical skills.

Nice-to-haves

  • Experience with cryogenic systems and materials.
  • Familiarity with CAD software and structural analysis tools.
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
