About the position

The P & C Engineer position involves detailed design, cost estimating, and bid document preparation for protection and control systems in various power systems including commercial, industrial, renewables, and utilities. The role requires collaboration with other engineering teams to ensure the integration of protection, control, and monitoring systems, while also providing leadership to less experienced staff.

Responsibilities

  • Create/modify one-lines, three-lines, control schematics, wiring diagrams, relay panel arrangements, and cable lists for substations.
  • Design auxiliary AC and DC power systems.
  • Create/modify technical specifications for major equipment such as power transformers and circuit breakers.
  • Coordinate with SCADA engineers and substation physical engineers for system integration.
  • Perform basic calculations such as voltage drop and short circuit analysis with minimal supervision.
  • Apply field mark-ups of project as-built drawings with minimal supervision.
  • Assist project manager in developing scope of work and conceptual design.
  • Communicate and coordinate project activities with project manager and clients.
  • Provide leadership and guidance to less experienced staff members.
  • Evaluate/review control features and communication aspects of protective relays and other equipment.
  • Aid in testing and commissioning for system startups and functional checks.

Requirements

  • A Bachelor's Degree in Electrical Engineering or Electrical Engineering Technology.
  • 5 or more years of experience in protection and control system design, cost estimating, and bid document preparation for medium voltage electrical power projects.
  • A PE license from a US State (NC and NY) is preferred.
  • Successful track record designing Protection and Control Systems.
  • Knowledge of IEEE, NERC, NEC, NESC, NEMA, and ANSI standards used in designing substations.
  • Experience with telecommunications, protective relaying, and automation (SCADA).
  • Desired knowledge in low voltage coordination and arc flash studies.
  • Familiarity with Schweitzer Engineering Laboratories, General Electric, and Basler equipment.

Nice-to-haves

  • Desired software knowledge in ASPEN or similar, Doble, AutoCAD, SKM, ETAP.
