About the position
The Sr Surgical Technologist at Houston Methodist is responsible for providing safe and efficient operating room support, mentoring other surgical technologists, and ensuring high standards of patient care. This role requires independent judgment and collaboration with the healthcare team to facilitate optimal surgical outcomes and maintain a positive work environment.
Responsibilities
- Prepare the operating room, equipment, and supplies for surgical procedures.
- Anticipate the needs of the surgeon and nursing staff during surgeries.
- Assist the circulating RN with surgical counts and maintain sterile technique.
- Mentor and train new surgical technologists in the department.
- Participate in quality improvement practices and report near misses.
- Manage surgical supplies efficiently and recommend cost containment measures.
- Engage in departmental projects and shared governance activities.
Requirements
- High School diploma or equivalent education.
- Successful completion of an accredited Surgical Technology program or military training equivalency.
- Two years of experience as a Surgical Technologist.
- BLS - Basic Life Support certification.
- CSA - Certified Surgical Assistant or equivalent certification.
Nice-to-haves
- Experience in multiple surgical specialty service lines.
- Proficiency in using hospital databases such as EPIC.
- Strong knowledge of medical terminology.
