About the position

The Sr. Survivability Engineer at American Rheinmetall Vehicles is responsible for integrating subsystems and implementing protective features for combat vehicle crews. This role focuses on the development and integration of armor and structural designs for military vehicles, particularly in support of the U.S. Army's XM30 Infantry Combat Vehicle program. The engineer will work closely with various teams to ensure the effectiveness and safety of vehicle designs, contributing to critical advancements in the defense industry.

Responsibilities

  • Conduct system requirements analysis and develop solutions for combat vehicles.
  • Define and integrate passive and active protection solutions for combat vehicles.
  • Implement signature management solutions including thermal, acoustic, and visual aspects.
  • Support armor subsystem and vehicle-level integration, testing, and verification activities.
  • Create design layouts, sketches, and notes for design changes.
  • Coordinate with Materials Engineer to ensure proper materials are utilized.
  • Communicate design factors such as material availability and efficiency while adhering to government specifications.
  • Represent the Survivability team in internal and external meetings.
  • Travel up to 25% of the time, including occasional travel to Europe.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's Degree in Engineering or a related field.
  • At least 10 years of experience in the design and development of armor vehicles.
  • Experience with passive and active protection systems.
  • Familiarity with combat vehicle threats and mitigation techniques.
  • Ability to work within CAD-based design systems.
  • Knowledge of model-based systems engineering techniques.
  • Strong oral and written communication skills.
  • Hands-on knowledge of vehicle survivability technologies and equipment.

Nice-to-haves

  • Master's Degree in Engineering (Mechanical, Electrical, Systems, etc.).
  • Experience with 3D modeling software (e.g., CREO).
  • Military experience.
  • Understanding of Systems Engineering and related standards/processes.
