About the position

The Sr. System Development Engineer in Hardware Engineering at AWS Infrastructure Services is responsible for leading the development of automation and infrastructure capabilities to enhance OEM drive operational health and integration across AWS storage server platforms. This role involves collaborating with a diverse team to deliver high standards of safety and security while optimizing performance and cost for AWS customers. The engineer will focus on software test development, system debugging, and the creation of cohesive engineering products that support AWS's innovative web services.

Responsibilities

  • Lead the Hardware Engineering System Development effort to define and build software and enabling tools according to best practices.
  • Track and report progress on development efforts.
  • Work across internal HWEng teams to ensure new storage hardware meets performance and reliability standards.
  • Collaborate with internal customers to identify potential issues with onboarding new storage servers.
  • Build, manage, and deploy pipelines for rapid deployment of new code changes.
  • Develop monitoring tools and metrics to ensure hardware is functioning properly in both test and production environments.

Requirements

  • 6+ years of deploying and operating in a Linux/Unix environment.
  • 5+ years of programming experience with at least one modern language such as C++, C#, Java, Python, Golang, PowerShell, or Ruby.
  • 5+ years of non-internship professional software development experience.
  • 3+ years of designing or architecting new and existing systems.
  • 3+ years of experience in systems design, software development, operations, automation, and process improvement.
  • Experience leading the design, build, and deployment of complex software solutions in production.

Nice-to-haves

  • Understanding of AWS services, specifically distributed storage systems and storage hardware.
  • Knowledge of drive (HDD, SSD) technology.
