About the position

The Sr. Systems Administrator (Linux/Unix) position at Axom Technologies involves supporting the Army National Guard's IT services in Falls Church, VA. This role focuses on the administration, deployment, and maintenance of Linux/Unix systems, ensuring the operational efficiency and security of the IT infrastructure. The position requires expertise in managing IT systems and compliance with ITIL best practices, contributing to the modernization and evolution of the ARNG's global IT services.

Responsibilities

  • Provides support for Linux/Unix systems administration, deployment, virtualization, maintenance, and compliance.
  • Manages and monitors all installed Information Technology (IT) Systems and infrastructure.
  • Installs, configures, tests, and performs routine maintenance on operating systems, application software and system management tools to ensure the highest levels of systems and infrastructure availability.
  • Performs administrative operation and maintenance functions of server hardware and software.
  • Maintains system security and executes common practices and procedures.
  • Monitors usage statistics and logs.
  • Maintains baseline configurations and performs modification of configuration settings.
  • Institutes troubleshooting and incident response procedures.
  • Troubleshoots system related problems.
  • Remains current in operating systems/software analysis and technological developments and applications.
  • Recommends future direction or projects to management.
  • Provides expertise and direction in the development or modification of software programs and applications to enhance an operating system.
  • Develops and maintains documentation on new and existing systems.
  • Perform server maintenance and software upgrades supporting scanning tools.
  • Create and maintain standard tool maintenance design documentation and test plans for new and existing applications and hardware to avoid obsolescence and improve productivity for the user community and Government leadership.

Requirements

  • BA/BS in Information Technology related field, or equivalent years of combined experience and training.
  • 8+ years relevant experience.
  • Well versed with Linux/Unix server operating systems, as well as common virtualization technologies, preferably VMware (vSphere, vCenter).
  • Experience managing and patching Linux/Unix systems.
  • Possess the appropriate computing environment certifications to achieve DoD 8570.01-M Information.
  • Possess the appropriate baseline certifications to achieve DoD 8570.01-M Information Assurance Technical (IAT) Level II.
  • Red Hat Certified System Administrator (RHCSA) OR obtain Certification within 6 months of hire.

Nice-to-haves

  • Linux/Unix systems administration.
  • OCA/OCP Solaris Administrator Certification.
  • Possess an ITIL v3 or ITIL 4 Foundation or a higher certification in either category.
