About the position

Motorola Solutions is seeking a Sr. Systems Engineer to join our team, focusing on the design and implementation of public safety solutions for our ASTRO 25 and adjacent technologies. This role is crucial for State and Local government agencies, and we are looking for engineers who are passionate about delivering impactful solutions. The Sr. Systems Engineer will collaborate with a diverse field team, including Project Management, Systems Engineers, System Technologists, Construction Managers, and Customer Service Managers, to lead the technical aspects of assigned projects until system acceptance. This position is not just about technical expertise; it also involves building strong relationships with customers and ensuring their needs are met throughout the project lifecycle. In this role, you will be responsible for the design and implementation of radio networks, which includes infrastructure, subscribers, mobile backhaul, and WAN and CEN networks. You will engage in high levels of customer interaction, conducting design reviews, overseeing staging and acceptance testing events, and performing troubleshooting efforts. Your responsibilities will also include system buildout, configuration, and acceptance testing in both lab and field environments, as well as conducting radio coverage testing, frequency analysis, and interference mitigation. Additionally, you will handle radio system licensing and prepare comprehensive system documentation, including system fleet maps and encryption templates. The ideal candidate will possess a strong understanding of Radio Frequency Engineering principles and Land/Mobile Radio Engineering principles. Familiarity with P25 Land Mobile Radio terminology and experience with Motorola ASTRO 25 architecture will be advantageous. You will also need to be knowledgeable about various operating systems, including VMware ESXI, Linux, and Microsoft, as well as networking protocols and devices. Strong interpersonal skills, self-motivation, and effective communication abilities are essential for success in this role. This position is a pipeline role, meaning while there is not an immediate opening, we are eager to build relationships with prospective candidates who meet our requirements.

Responsibilities

  • Lead technical aspects of assigned projects until system acceptance.
  • Design and implement radio networks including infrastructure, subscribers, mobile backhaul, and WAN and CEN networks.
  • Engage in customer interactions for design reviews and acceptance testing events.
  • Conduct radio coverage testing, frequency analysis, and interference mitigation.
  • Handle system buildout, configuration, and acceptance testing in lab and field environments.
  • Manage radio system licensing (FCC/Industry Canada/NTIA).
  • Prepare system fleet maps, encryption, and radio programming templates.
  • Document complete system specifications and configurations.
  • Oversee live system cutovers and upgrades.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's Degree in an engineering or technical discipline and 6+ years of engineering or technical experience OR 8 years of engineering or technical experience.
  • Legal authorization to work in the U.S. indefinitely is required.

Nice-to-haves

  • Experience with Motorola ASTRO 25 architecture.
  • Certifications such as CompTIA Network+, Juniper JNCIA-Junos, Nokia NRS1, CCNA or similar are a plus.
  • Knowledge of point-to-point Microwave systems and FCC licensing.
