About the position

The Senior Tax Accountant position at our client, a highly reputable and growing CPA firm located on the Nassau/Suffolk border in Long Island, is a full-time role that involves a variety of tax and accounting responsibilities. The firm is experiencing growth and is looking for a dedicated professional to manage multiple engagements and ensure client deliverables are met efficiently. This role requires collaboration with all levels of staff on client engagements, providing an opportunity to work in a dynamic team environment. In this position, the Senior Tax Accountant will be responsible for reviewing complex and multi-state corporate, partnership, fiduciary, and individual income tax returns. The role includes tax preparation responsibilities for more complex tax returns, including 1040's, 1041's, 1120's, and 1065's. A strong understanding of estates and trusts is essential, as well as financial planning for high-net-worth individuals, which encompasses estates, gifting, and IRA considerations. The Senior Tax Accountant will also manage the resolution of tax notices and examinations with government agencies, perform tax research, and provide training on various related topics. Year-end tax projections and strategies for quarterly estimates and tax planning will be part of the responsibilities. Additionally, the role involves overseeing and managing workflow and client relationships, supervising staff accountants on multiple engagements simultaneously, and evaluating their progress. Training and mentoring of staff accountants will also be a key component of this position, along with providing educational client-focused communications and webinars as needed. The ideal candidate will possess strong technical taxation skills and the ability to form strong client relationships, making this a pivotal role within the firm as it continues to grow and expand its services.

Responsibilities

  • Manage multiple engagements to meet client deliverables
  • Work collaboratively with all levels of staff on client engagements
  • Review complex and multi-state corporate, partnership, fiduciary and individual income tax returns
  • Tax preparation responsibility for the more complex tax returns, as needed
  • Prepare 1040's, 1041's, 1120's, 1065's
  • Understand Estate and Trusts
  • Financial planning for high-net-worth individuals (estates, gifting, & IRA)
  • Manage resolving tax notices and examinations with government agencies
  • Perform tax research and training on various related topics
  • Conduct year-end tax projections/strategies for quarterly estimates & tax planning
  • Oversee and manage workflow and client relationships
  • Supervise staff accountants on multiple engagements simultaneously, and evaluate their progress
  • Train and mentor staff accountants
  • Provide educational client-focused communications and webinars, as needed
  • Possess strong technical taxation skills and the ability to form strong client relationships

Requirements

  • 3 to 5+ years of public accounting experience leading multiple engagements
  • CPA preferred/required with diversified tax background
  • Financial Assurance / Audit work experience is a plus
  • Working knowledge of CCH Axcess Tax, Engagement and QuickBooks
  • Team player with leadership and staff development skills
  • Effective communicator with problem solving and analytical abilities
  • Strong organizational and time management skills
