About the position

Lockton is seeking a senior level tax professional to join their Tax Planning group, providing direct support to the Director of U.S. Tax Planning. This role focuses on U.S. international federal income tax matters and offers significant opportunities for growth. The associate will assist with tax reporting and compliance, review Lockton's U.S. taxable income and tax liability from foreign operations, and help shape the future of Lockton's global tax function.

Responsibilities

  • Research, analyze and communicate U.S. federal income tax consequences relating to proposed or actual transactions, financings, reorganizations, or tax-initiated projects.
  • Monitor and provide summaries of relevant tax law changes or new developments relating to US federal international tax matters and potential impact to Lockton.
  • Model estimated U.S. tax exposures for Lockton's foreign operations on a long-term basis.
  • Engage with and aid with the management of Lockton's external advisors in evaluating US federal income tax consequences of cross-border and non-US matters.
  • Assess and identify opportunities to improve and optimize tax functions from process, data, and technology perspectives.
  • Work with Lockton's foreign offices in ensuring prompt delivery and access to financial and other data necessary for U.S. tax reporting and compliance.
  • Together with Lockton's foreign tax teams, monitor tax implications of Base Erosion and Profit Shifting (BEPS) initiatives and OECD requirements.
  • Assist Lockton's tax reporting and compliance group with U.S. federal income matters by providing technical guidance as to Lockton's tax positions on such matters and assist with the review and determination of Lockton's U.S. taxable income from its non-US operations, including calculation of tax attributes such as creditable foreign tax expense.
  • Mentor and assist with the development of junior associates as appropriate.
  • Expand and continue development of technical competence by taking advantage of relevant in-person and virtual tax training opportunities provided by Lockton, our consultants or third parties.

Requirements

  • Bachelor of Science in Accounting, Finance, or similar related field with a master's degree or professional degree in Tax highly preferable.
  • 4 to 6 years of related work experience in U.S. international tax matters with an emphasis on work experience that has involved significant research and analysis of technical tax issues.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Suite, including MS Excel.
  • Demonstrate ability and willingness to learn and innovate through tools such Alteryx, MS Power BI, MS Power Pivot, and MS Power Query.
  • Strong analytical and critical thinking skills, including the ability to efficiently and thoroughly research tax related matters.
  • Effective communication skills and excellent writing capabilities.
  • Ability to manage multiple projects and consistently meet deadlines.
  • Ability to work across functions and to distill complex matters for non-tax individuals.
  • Strong work ethic and desire to further develop tax technical knowledge.
