About the position

The Senior Technical Accountant II at Royal Caribbean Group is responsible for assisting in the financial reporting of derivative instruments and executing the company's hedge accounting program. This role involves completing the monthly close process, performing hedge effectiveness testing, and preparing disclosures for SEC filings. The position requires a strong understanding of technical accounting and complex financial instruments, along with the ability to conduct statistical analysis and present findings to upper management.

Responsibilities

  • Assist the Manager of Technical Accounting in financial reporting of derivative instruments.
  • Execute the company's hedge accounting program in accordance with ASC 815 and ASC 820.
  • Complete the monthly close process and perform periodic hedge effectiveness testing.
  • Prepare relevant disclosures for SEC filings (10-Qs and 10-Ks).
  • Draft and maintain hedge accounting documentation detailing the company's hedge strategy.
  • Generate and interpret statistical analysis for hedge accounting.
  • Conduct technical accounting research and write position papers on hedge transactions.
  • Provide technical accounting support and present to upper management and the Hedge Committee.
  • Determine and generate periodic accounting for derivative transactions from inception to maturity.
  • Prepare and analyze internal management reports on derivative financial activity.
  • Produce quarterly statement of cash flows specific to derivatives activity.
  • Generate derivative financial statement disclosures for SEC filings.
  • Prepare and analyze monthly balance sheet reconciliations and variance analytics for derivatives activity.
  • Support monthly close with derivative and stock compensation entries.
  • Prepare annual forfeiture rate analysis and position paper for stock compensation.

Requirements

  • Undergraduate business degree in Accounting.
  • Post graduate degree in Accounting or MBA with Accounting specialization preferred.
  • Certified Public Accountant (CPA) in active and good standing.
  • Minimum 3 years of Accounting experience, including 2 years in public accounting with a Big 4/national firm.
  • Knowledge of accounting for derivatives and hedge accounting (ASC 815 and ASC 820).
  • Strong analytical and communication skills (written and verbal).
  • Experience in performing technical accounting research and documenting findings.
  • Experience in presenting complex accounting matters to management.
  • Work experience with statistical analysis and interpretation.

Nice-to-haves

  • Experience with SEC filings and disclosures.
  • Familiarity with Sarbanes Oxley internal controls.
