About the position

Join the Staples Enterprise Data team as a Senior Technical Product Manager, Business Systems Data Analysis, and be part of our transformative leadership in driving business success through innovative data solutions. This key role is responsible for executing a comprehensive data strategy that aligns with our business objectives. You will partner with key business stakeholders and cross-functional teams, including Product and Program management, Data Engineering, and Application Engineering, to understand their data needs and strategic objectives. Your ability to analyze business processes, systems, and data will be crucial in identifying areas for improvement and pursuing them effectively. In this role, you will define key performance indicators (KPIs) and metrics to measure the effectiveness of the data strategy. You will gather and document business requirements from stakeholders, ensuring a clear understanding of business needs, and translate these into technical requirements. Your strong analytical skills will enable you to interact and collaborate with both technical and non-technical stakeholders, crafting well-structured business requirements that drive results. As the primary liaison to business stakeholders, you will act as their voice to the data engineering teams, ensuring that their needs are met. You will also be responsible for developing and maintaining system documentation, including functional specifications and user manuals. Your experience with at least one BI tool, such as PowerBI, will be essential in generating reports and providing insights to support business decisions. This role is not just about managing data; it's about leveraging data to drive business success and innovation.

Responsibilities

  • Execute a comprehensive data strategy to drive business objectives.
  • Partner with key business stakeholders and cross-functional teams to understand their data needs and strategic objectives.
  • Analyze business processes, systems, and data to identify areas for improvement.
  • Define key performance indicators (KPIs) and metrics to measure the effectiveness of the data strategy.
  • Gather and document business requirements from stakeholders and translate them into technical requirements.
  • Serve as the primary liaison to business stakeholders, acting as their voice to the data engineering teams.
  • Develop and maintain system documentation, including functional specifications and user manuals.
  • Analyze data trends, generate reports, and provide insights to support business decisions.

Requirements

  • 10 plus years of experience in business systems data analysis or a related role.
  • Strong analytical, problem-solving, and communication skills.
  • Familiarity with relevant data engineering technologies.
  • Experience working with large datasets.
  • Proficiency in SQL, data exploration, and BI tools (e.g. Power BI).

Nice-to-haves

  • Familiarity with data hygiene, common cleansing techniques, and best practices around these.
  • B2B / B2C / Retail backgrounds are helpful.
