Amazon Web Services (AWS) Hardware Engineering is a fast-growing and leading-edge research and development team that creates enterprise compute and storage server designs for our innovative web service and e-commerce technology platforms. Our designs are industry-leading in terms of performance, frugality, and operational excellence, and are critical to the success of the AWS business and the hundreds of thousands of customers who use utility computing today. We are seeking an experienced Technical Program Manager (TPM) to define and build the next generation of our cloud servers. Our success depends on our highly respected server infrastructure; we're handling massive scale and rapid integration of emergent technologies. The ideal TPM candidate will be an experienced program manager who is skilled in managing hardware product development teams across several geographic regions using a variety of suppliers. The successful candidate will be an innovative self-starter and leader. The candidate will be familiar with the cloud computing industry and AWS offerings and will be passionate about providing the best possible customer experience at the best cost. The candidate will have an obsession with data and precise analysis and will use these as inputs to make decisions. As a TPM on the Edge Hardware Engineering team, you will be responsible for leading hardware product development programs in a highly cross-functional environment which includes internal customers, external vendors, and technology partners. You'll provide leadership in the application of new technologies to large scale server deployments in a continuous effort to deliver a world-class customer experience at a world-class cost point. This is a fast-paced challenging position, and you'll work with thought leaders in multiple technology areas. Responsibilities

• Manage large, complex technology initiatives, delivering critical solutions, significant improvements, new mechanisms, or deprecating systems that are no longer needed.
• Successfully manage all stages of projects from concept to delivery.
• Work closely with customers to understand their short and long-term business goals and product needs.
• Drive and coordinate the efforts of an interdisciplinary team across hardware design, component development, firmware, test, and qualification, along with external suppliers and design partners.
• Actively involved in sustaining operational health of the platforms supported.
• Understand the architecture of the systems worked with, influencing team technical priorities and business strategy through data-driven contributions.
• Communicate ideas effectively to a wide range of audiences including Directors and VPs, fostering constructive dialogue and leading resolution of contentious issues.
• Set a great example in program management practices, defining clear goals and objectives, and driving crisp decisions about project priorities.
• Proactively identify risks and bring them to the attention of the team and stakeholders with plans for mitigation.
• Simplify processes by judiciously adding, refining, and removing procedures to increase productivity and effectiveness.

Requirements

• 5+ years of technical product or program management experience
• 7+ years of working directly with engineering teams experience
• 3+ years of software development experience
• 5+ years of technical program management working directly with software engineering teams experience
• Experience managing programs across cross-functional teams, building processes and coordinating release schedules.

Nice-to-haves

• 5+ years of project management disciplines including scope, schedule, budget, quality, along with risk and critical path management experience
• Experience managing projects across cross-functional teams, building sustainable processes and coordinating release schedules
• Experience defining KPI's/SLA's used to drive multi-million dollar businesses and reporting to senior leadership
• Experience in working with overseas CM/OEM/ODM/IHV vendors in product development
• Experience managing the lifecycle of a complex cross-functional program with considerable business impact
• Experienced in managing high complexity electronic systems designed for large scale applications
• Ability to apply critical thinking in complex situations; experience working in cross-functional groups including mechanical engineering, test, reliability, failure analysis
• Experienced in identifying and mitigating supply chain constraints
• Knowledge of compute and storage server architecture and design for large scale applications
• Experience with server technologies such as: power optimization, board design, thermal, mechanical, BIOS, BMC, signal integrity, networking
• Experienced in gathering system requirements and working with support teams to aid in the creation of server specifications
• Experienced in overseeing and reviewing operational excellence metrics for projects post-launch
• Inquisitive with technical and business skills to understand, test, and challenge while working harmoniously with the business and technology owners
• Demonstrated ability to engage technology providers in the industry to track and apply emerging technologies to innovative server designs
• A strong track record of executing in dynamic and fast-paced environments. Highly experienced with data-driven decision making
• Experienced maintaining high level of data security when working with external partners and customers by driving customer engagement plans through proper legal team workstreams
• Comfortable working on multiple programs at once.
