About the position

Project Kuiper is an initiative aimed at increasing global broadband access through a constellation of 3,236 satellites in low Earth orbit (LEO). The mission of Project Kuiper is to provide fast, affordable broadband to unserved and underserved communities worldwide, thereby helping to close the digital divide. This initiative will cater to a diverse range of customers, including consumers, businesses, government agencies, and organizations operating in areas lacking reliable connectivity. The Sr Technical Program Manager for ProdOps Operational Excellence plays a crucial role in enhancing the production rate of Kuiper satellites through continuous improvement strategies. This position involves managing an operational excellence program that drives improvements across various areas such as manufacturing, testing, and fulfillment processes. The successful candidate will collaborate with peers across all Kuiper teams, including hardware, software, manufacturing, quality, launch, and testing. Key attributes for this role include ownership, a commitment to high standards, continuous improvement, stakeholder management, innovation, and the ability to create clarity from ambiguity while fostering productive collaboration. The candidate will embody Amazon's Leadership Principles to achieve operational excellence and drive transformative change. In this role, the candidate will be responsible for driving a large portfolio of continuous improvement projects while also leading deep dive analyses to identify root causes of specific processes or areas, particularly in product engineering. The effectiveness of all operational activities on-site will be assessed using analytical tools such as Kaizen, Six Sigma, DMAIC, and VSM to propose waste-reduction strategies and corrective actions. The ideal candidate should be comfortable collaborating on process improvements, equipment design, automation projects, data collection and analysis, and negotiating new requirements with design engineers. A proven track record in managing projects and leading rapid investigation initiatives will be essential for success in this role. Experience in managing cross-functional initiatives will enable the candidate to create efficient mechanisms that allow various engineering and operational teams to enhance Kuiper satellite production systems. This position is highly collaborative, requiring partnerships with cross-functional leaders to drive positive results. The candidate will advocate for both internal and external customers and must be able to push back when necessary without being adversarial. Daily challenges will involve tackling novel situations and working with multiple technical teams across different Amazon locations. The candidate should be comfortable with a high degree of ambiguity and enjoy solving complex problems that have not been addressed at scale before. This role promises significant learning opportunities, a fun work environment, and the chance to make a positive impact on millions of people.
