About the position

The Sr Technical Program Manager position at UKG is a pivotal role within the Enterprise Product Innovation and Cloud (EPIC) organization, which is dedicated to managing a portfolio of value streams that contribute to an enterprise SaaS product. The primary objective of this role is to accelerate the delivery of value to customers through effective program management and collaboration with cross-functional teams. The successful candidate will be part of a dynamic team of skilled practitioners who are committed to driving innovation, continuous improvement, and customer satisfaction. This role requires a strong focus on value stream management, project and program management, technical acumen, stakeholder communication, and problem-solving skills. In this role, the Sr Technical Program Manager will be responsible for driving the value stream in collaboration with other Value Stream leads, including Technical Program Managers and Program Leads. This includes participating in value stream events, process improvement initiatives, and optimization efforts to enhance delivery efficiency and customer satisfaction. The candidate will also define and execute project and program activities, including scope definition, planning, scheduling, tracking, risk management, and reporting. Strong communication and negotiation skills are essential for effectively collaborating with stakeholders to achieve consensus and alignment on objectives, scope, and deliverables. The role demands a solid understanding of software development processes to guide project planning and execution, ensuring adherence to best practices and standards. The Sr Technical Program Manager will develop, maintain, and review project metrics and documentation, providing regular updates on overall progress, milestones, and key metrics to stakeholders in alignment with Agile principles. Additionally, the candidate will analyze complex challenges that arise during project execution, identify root causes, and drive the development of innovative solutions to overcome them. The position also emphasizes the importance of timely delivery with quality, managing cross-team dependencies, and ensuring that deliverables meet quality standards and align with committed timelines. The candidate will foster an outcome-based strategy and culture by demonstrating strong leadership skills, promoting collaboration, accountability, and continuous improvement, and championing best practices in program management and execution. Ultimately, the Sr Technical Program Manager will embrace all facets of program initiatives and take ownership from inception to completion.

Responsibilities

  • Drive the value stream in collaboration with other Value Stream leads, including Technical Program Managers and Program Leads.
  • Participate in value stream events, process improvement initiatives, and optimization efforts to enhance delivery efficiency and customer satisfaction.
  • Define and execute project and program activities, including scope definition, planning, scheduling, tracking, risk management, and reporting.
  • Leverage cross-functional teams through strong communication and negotiation skills to achieve consensus and alignment on objectives, scope, and deliverables.
  • Develop, maintain, and review project metrics and documentation, including flow metrics, backlogs, project plans, meeting minutes, and action items.
  • Provide regular updates on overall progress, milestones, and key metrics to stakeholders as aligned with Agile principles.
  • Collaborate with internal and external stakeholders, including product managers, engineering teams, QA, and customer support, to facilitate communication and ensure clarity of expectations.
  • Analyze complex challenges that arise during project execution, identify root causes, and drive the development of innovative solutions.
  • Contribute ideas and suggestions for process improvements and optimization initiatives.
  • Manage cross-team dependencies and ensure that deliverables meet quality standards and align with committed timelines.
  • Foster an outcome-based strategy and culture by demonstrating strong leadership skills and promoting a culture of collaboration, accountability, and continuous improvement.
  • Embrace all facets of program initiatives and take ownership from inception to completion.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or a related field.
  • 5 years experience as a Technical Program Manager or similar role, with a track record of successfully delivering complex software projects.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills, with the ability to understand complex technical issues and translate them into actionable plans.
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to collaborate effectively with cross-functional teams and build positive working relationships.
  • Organized and detail-oriented, with the ability to manage multiple tasks and priorities simultaneously.
  • Good understanding of Agile practices, including SAFe, Scrum, LPM, and DevOps.
  • Able to perform in a hybrid-office role, requiring three or more days per week in the office.

Nice-to-haves

  • Master's degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or a related field.
  • Experience with large-scale SaaS-based environments.
  • Ability to leverage a customer-centric lens to represent the customer's needs and preferences, where applicable.
