About the position

Allied World has an exciting opportunity for a Senior Underwriter/AVP in Excess Casualty. This role is pivotal in managing and growing a portfolio of general casualty business by exercising proper underwriting discipline. The successful candidate will be responsible for marketing and servicing both existing and potential wholesalers, ensuring that all underwriting practices align with the company's guidelines and standards. The position requires a proactive approach to account analysis, pricing, and structure recommendations, as well as the ability to perform and document referrals accurately. In this role, the Senior Underwriter will prepare quotes, binders, invoices, and underwriting worksheets, maintaining files in an orderly manner consistent with company guidelines. The candidate will also be expected to delegate and supervise work to Account Coordinators as needed, ensuring that all tasks are completed efficiently and effectively. Attendance at client meetings, lunches, dinners, and other social outings is essential to foster relationships and enhance business opportunities. Additionally, the Senior Underwriter will participate in educational seminars to stay updated on industry trends and practices. Marketing to wholesalers within the region and engaging in production meetings will be a key responsibility, as will collaborating with the Legal department for manuscript wording analysis and preparation. This position is ideal for someone who thrives in a fast-paced, high-pressure environment and possesses excellent communication skills for both internal and external clients.

Responsibilities

  • Perform account analysis according to Allied World (US) General Casualty guidelines
  • Develop account pricing/structure/make recommendations
  • Perform and document referrals
  • Prepare quotes, binders, invoices, underwriting worksheets within company guidelines
  • Maintain files in an orderly manner consistent with company guidelines
  • Delegate and supervise work to Account Coordinators as needed
  • Attend Client meetings, lunches, dinners, and other social outings as applicable
  • Attend educational seminars
  • Market to wholesalers within region and engage production meetings
  • Work with Legal department for manuscript wording analysis and preparation

Requirements

  • 4-5 years experience in General Casualty underwriting
  • Excellent communication skills for both internal and external clients
  • Ability to work independently in a fast-paced, high-pressure environment
  • Proficient in Microsoft applications including Word, Outlook, and Excel
  • Excellent organizational skills and ability to multi-task required
  • CPCU designation, or partial, preferred
