About the position

The Sr. Underwriting Consultant - Life Underwriting is responsible for underwriting new life insurance applications, focusing on delivering a best-in-class customer experience. This role involves assessing medical and financial risks associated with individual life insurance applications while supporting sales efforts. The position requires strong communication skills, accountability for accurate processing, and a customer-centric approach.

Responsibilities

• Underwrite formal and informal life insurance applications independently within approval authority guidelines.
• Analyze medical and financial information to make comprehensive assessments based on company guidelines and policies.
• Manage change effectively, defuse conflicts, and negotiate positive outcomes.
• Understand the cross-functional implications of underwriting decisions and actions.
• Manage a large caseload efficiently and effectively.
• Demonstrate superior technical underwriting knowledge and skills.
• Provide training to internal and external customers on underwriting topics.
• Interact independently and effectively with a sophisticated field force in an upscale market.

Requirements

• 3+ years of life underwriting experience with demonstrated competence in handling mid-level face amount cases.
• Approval authority up to $7,000,000.
• Experience with various distribution systems.
• FLMI, FALU, and/or CLU designations preferred or progress towards these designations.
