About the position

Tandem Diabetes Care is seeking a Senior User Experience Researcher I to lead the design and execution of user experience research studies across its product portfolio. This role is pivotal in enhancing the user experience for individuals living with diabetes, as it involves close collaboration with various cross-functional teams including UX Design, Product Management, and Engineering. The Senior User Experience Researcher I will utilize a range of research methodologies to gather insights and communicate findings effectively to stakeholders, ensuring that user needs are at the forefront of product development. The position requires a blend of in-office and remote work, with an expectation to be present in the office at least two days a week, ideally on Tuesdays or Wednesdays to facilitate team collaboration. In this role, the Senior User Experience Researcher I will conduct both qualitative and quantitative research studies, documenting responses and results while coordinating multi-site studies with external vendors. The researcher will analyze user data to derive actionable insights and design recommendations, and will be responsible for creating user personas and journey maps that inform product development. This position also involves ensuring compliance with legal and regulatory requirements, particularly concerning privacy and data protection. The ideal candidate will have a strong methodological background, excellent communication skills, and the ability to manage projects effectively in a fast-paced environment. They will act as a champion for user experience research within the organization, advocating for the needs of users and ensuring that their insights are integrated into the product lifecycle from ideation through commercialization.

Responsibilities

  • Lead the design and execution of user experience research studies across Tandem's product portfolio.
  • Conduct qualitative and quantitative research studies, documenting responses and results.
  • Coordinate multi-site studies with outside vendors.
  • Analyze user research data and synthesize it into actionable insights and design recommendations.
  • Conduct task-focused analyses to determine user needs.
  • Collaborate with product and design teams to identify research goals and develop research plans.
  • Act as a liaison for UX Research in cross-functional meetings.
  • Communicate user insights to various stakeholders, including senior leadership.
  • Support lifecycle management of products from ideation to commercialization.
  • Create and maintain user personas, user journey maps, and other user-centered design artifacts.
  • Stay updated on current technologies and incorporate them into product strategies.
  • Ensure compliance with company policies and legal requirements.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in a related field or equivalent combination of education and applicable job experience.
  • Master's degree in Psychology, Experimental Psychology, or Human-Computer Interaction strongly preferred.
  • 5+ years of experience conducting user research.
  • Experience with qualitative and quantitative research methods.
  • Strong methodological practice in designing studies.
  • Excellent study moderation skills for interviews and focus groups.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Word, Excel, and PowerPoint for reporting and presentations.
  • Ability to communicate effectively with all levels of the organization.

Nice-to-haves

  • 1 year of medical device industry experience preferred.
  • Understanding of diabetes disease management preferred.
  • Experience with UX research software tools such as Morae, SPSS, Visio, and Adobe Photoshop.
