About the position

PayPal is seeking a Senior User Experience Researcher who is passionate about understanding user needs and is eager to uncover deep insights that inform the creation of user-centered experiences. This role is vital in building trust and security into PayPal's products while contributing to a positive brand experience for the target audience. The Senior UX Researcher will utilize a variety of research methods to influence product development and design decisions across the organization. This includes conducting early research to understand customer needs and problems, guiding design definition and prototyping, and performing post-launch research to inform future iterations. The researcher will be responsible for executing research studies from start to finish, which involves identifying the right research questions, defining participant samples, selecting appropriate methodologies, and ensuring high-quality execution of studies. Strong communication and collaboration skills are essential for effectively sharing findings and influencing stakeholders in the design process. As a member of the Global Experience Design Organization, the Senior UX Researcher will work closely with cross-functional teams, acting as a liaison between design, product management, and marketing. They will champion the voice of the customer in workshops and design sprints, surfacing relevant findings and informing product and design strategy. The role also involves advocating for user-centric approaches within the Experience Design community, exploring best practices, and demonstrating a growth mindset by seeking feedback and expanding skillsets. The ideal candidate will have a background in user experience, design, research, or related fields, with experience across digital products and platforms, particularly in financial services or e-commerce.

Responsibilities

  • Identify research opportunities that inform product and design strategy.
  • Independently execute research studies from beginning to end, including defining participant samples and choosing methodologies.
  • Present compelling insights and recommendations to multiple teams and leaders across the organization.
  • Understand how various research functions and data sources contribute to the product development lifecycle.
  • Act as a liaison between design, product management, and marketing teams.
  • Champion the voice of the customer in workshops and design sprints.
  • Shape the Experience Design community by advocating for user-centric approaches and exploring best practices.
  • Demonstrate a growth mindset by actively seeking feedback and experimenting with new approaches.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree with 4-5 years of experience or Master's degree with 3-4 years in user experience, design, research, or related fields.
  • Experience across digital products and platforms, with a focus on financial services or e-commerce being advantageous.
  • Proficiency in a variety of research methods and approaches in remote, field, and lab settings, including card sorting, tree testing, diary studies, and usability testing.

Nice-to-haves

  • Experience with concept testing and in-depth interviews.
  • Familiarity with market research and analytics as they relate to product development.
