About the position
The Sr. Water Quality Specialist is responsible for ensuring the production and distribution of safe water while adhering to regulations and maintaining customer satisfaction. This role involves monitoring water quality compliance, leading investigations, and coordinating emergency responses to water quality issues.
Responsibilities
- Monitor regulatory water quality activities to ensure compliance with water quality and reporting requirements.
- Interface with federal and state regulatory agencies to coordinate compliance processes.
- Participate in the formulation and implementation of long-range plans for engineering or scientific programs.
- Lead special water quality studies to address long-term problems or prepare for future regulations.
- Provide customer support on water quality issues, including initial responses and operational investigations.
- Plan and coordinate tests, including developing protocols and preparing reports and recommendations.
- Participate in regional decision-making processes to protect water quality.
- Serve as a member of the Contamination Rapid Response Team (CRRT) and participate in related activities.
Requirements
- Bachelor's degree in environmental science/engineering or related field with 4+ years of relevant experience, or a high school diploma with 8+ years of experience.
- Experience in laboratory analyses performing advanced testing on water and/or wastewater.
- Experience leading water quality related projects, including planning and developing protocols and reports.
- Comprehensive knowledge of federal, state, and local regulatory provisions related to water quality.
Nice-to-haves
- Master's degree in environmental science/engineering or related field.
- Experience in functional supervision of professional or sub-professional staff.
