About the position

The SRE / Applications Support Engineer role is focused on providing application support within a front-office environment, particularly in the financial services sector. The position requires a blend of technical skills, including scripting, automation, and knowledge of financial products, to ensure the reliability and performance of applications used by traders and other stakeholders. The engineer will work closely with users to troubleshoot issues, develop automation tools, and monitor system performance, contributing to the overall efficiency of the trading operations.

Responsibilities

  • Provide front-office application support, troubleshooting issues and resolving them promptly.
  • Work closely with traders and other users to understand their needs and provide effective solutions.
  • Develop and maintain scripts and automation tools to streamline support processes and improve system reliability.
  • Monitor system performance and proactively identify and address potential issues.
  • Participate in incident management and problem resolution.
  • Collaborate with development teams to ensure smooth application deployments and upgrades.

Requirements

  • Approximately 7 years of experience in application support, ideally in a front-office environment (trading floor preferred).
  • Experience with Fixed Income products (Bonds, Treasuries, FX trading, Equities, Interest Rate Derivatives, Credit Risk) is highly desirable.
  • Proficiency in Python scripting and ability to handle small development tasks.
  • Strong knowledge of Unix/Linux, including shell scripting, and understanding of basic networking concepts (NFS, LAN, TCP/IP).
  • Experience with relational database management systems (RDBMS) and the ability to write and execute SQL queries.
  • Familiarity with monitoring tools like Geneos, Grafana, and Splunk.
  • Experience with automation tools used for Site Reliability Engineering.
  • Knowledge of job scheduling tools (e.g., Autosys, Control-M).
  • Experience with AWS, with AWS certification preferred.
  • Excellent communication skills to interact effectively with traders and other stakeholders.

Nice-to-haves

  • In-depth knowledge of fixed income derivatives products.
  • Proficiency in one or more general-purpose programming languages (Java, Python, .NET, C++, etc.).
  • Experience or knowledge of working in a DevOps/SRE model.
  • Familiarity with Jenkins, Git, and Bitbucket.
