The Nuclear Operations (NucOps) team at Westinghouse Electric Co is seeking a Nuclear Engineer II to join their dynamic and diverse environment. This position is hybrid, requiring two days a week on-site at the Westinghouse Global Headquarters facility in Cranberry Woods, PA. The NucOps team is an industry leader in supporting operating nuclear power plants worldwide, including roles such as Control Room Operators and Reactor Engineers. As a member of this team, you will have the opportunity to work on the next generation of reactors, including the AP300 SMR and eVinci microreactor, as well as the AP1000® fleet and other operating plants globally. This role is designed for individuals who are eager to build their skills based on actual operating plant experience combined with advanced plant design, which will significantly accelerate your career in the nuclear industry. NucOps has a rich history of supporting the commissioning of Pressurized Water Reactors (PWRs) since the inception of the commercial nuclear power industry. Approximately 75% of the team members have qualified for reactor operator roles, and you could be the next to achieve this milestone. The team's experience as reactor operators is crucial in defining and enhancing the operational procedures of nuclear power plants in control rooms worldwide. The NucOps team specializes in reactor core physics testing and has developed innovative technologies such as Dynamic Rod Worth Measurements and Subcritical Physics Testing, ensuring that the as-built core aligns with the modeled core. The team also provides a wide range of reactor engineering services, including training future Station Nuclear Engineers, nuclear instrumentation diagnostics, and optimizing fuel transfer and cask loading processes. Innovation is a core value of the NucOps culture, and the team is continuously seeking creative ideas to assist operating plants. In this role, you will be an individual contributor who applies established standards and your personal knowledge base acquired through years of experience. Your day-to-day responsibilities will involve collaborating with new plant designers and licensed reactor operators to define the safest and most effective operational procedures for nuclear plants. You will gain insights into integrated plant operations, develop or update control room operating procedures, and validate various scenarios in control room simulators before they are implemented in training for reactor operators. Additionally, you will receive one-on-one mentoring to learn test methods and gain field experience, including time spent in control rooms to refine your knowledge and skills. Your responsibilities will also encompass designing new incore instrumentation, maintaining testing equipment, and preparing and reporting on tests. In the field, you will support utility reactor operators by performing critical activities in their control rooms.
