About the position

The Hardware Design Engineer at Western Digital will play a crucial role in the development of world-class solid state flash drives (SSD). This position focuses on hardware electronic design for SSD products, requiring a strong foundation in analog and digital circuit design. The engineer will collaborate with cross-functional teams and external vendors to create high-quality hardware solutions that meet product and system requirements.

Responsibilities

• Generate configuration and circuit design for various blocks including power system, host interface controller, and NAND controller based on product and system requirements.
• Represent the hardware team in program meetings.
• Perform SPICE simulation and bench evaluation to verify design prior to design release.
• Conduct component testing and collaborate with quality engineers to qualify new components.
• Create schematics in Cadence Orcad and provide layout guidelines.
• Work closely with layout and SIPI teams to optimize implementation.
• Generate design documents for internal and external teams as reference and user manual.
• Perform functional checkout on new hardware.
• Collaborate with validation team and other teams to resolve hardware issues.
• Create and update BOM in Agile to enable material team and manufacturing.

Requirements

• Electrical Engineering (EE) students graduating with a Masters from December 2024 to June 2025 or a Bachelor's degree with 2-3 years of related work experience.
• Exceptional written and verbal communication skills.
• Ability to work both independently and in large, cross-functional team settings.
