About the position

The Computational Sensing Team at MERL is looking for an intern to assist in the development of estimation algorithms for single-photon lidar. This role is designed for a PhD student with expertise in statistical modeling and computational imaging, providing an opportunity to collaborate with experienced researchers and contribute to innovative lidar reconstruction algorithms.

Responsibilities

  • Collaborate with MERL researchers to design new lidar reconstruction algorithms.
  • Conduct simulations related to single-photon lidar.
  • Prepare results for publication.

Requirements

  • PhD student status in a relevant field.
  • Strong background in statistical modeling and estimation theory.
  • Proficiency in programming with Python or MATLAB.

Nice-to-haves

  • Detailed knowledge of single-photon detection and lidar.
  • Experience with Poisson processes.
  • Hands-on optics experience.
