About the position

The Staff Accountant - A/R Specialist at Kentucky Christian University plays a crucial role in supporting the university's accounting functions. This full-time, 12-month salary non-exempt position is designed for individuals who are committed to maintaining the integrity of financial operations within the institution. The Staff Accountant will work closely with the Controller and Senior Staff Accountant, as well as various operational units and academic departments, to ensure accurate and timely processing of financial transactions. Key responsibilities include processing requisitions, invoices, monthly statements, credit card statements, and utility bills. The Staff Accountant will coordinate the approval of payments to departments, record daily cash receipts, and manage the billing and collection of accounts receivable. Additionally, the role involves assisting the Advancement Office with gift-related accounting, completing monthly sales tax reporting, and tracking accruals for the yearly audit. The Staff Accountant will also manage the Federal Perkins Loan program and conduct purchasing activities as necessary. The position requires adherence to all accounting and internal control systems, participation in professional development, and preparation of various internal and external reports. The Staff Accountant will also assist in answering the Unit telephone and providing support to guests, ensuring compliance with all policies and regulations outlined in the KCU Staff Handbook. This role is essential for maintaining the financial health of the university and supporting its mission and values.

Responsibilities

  • Process requisitions, invoices, monthly statements, credit card statements, and utility bills.
  • Coordinate invoices and approval of payments to departments throughout the institution.
  • Record daily cash receipts and transport deposits to local financial institutions.
  • Coordinate the billing, maintenance, and collection of accounts receivable for the University.
  • Assist the University's Advancement Office with gift-related accounting.
  • Print and distribute checks weekly.
  • Complete monthly sales tax reporting.
  • Track accrual of payables for the yearly audit.
  • Manage and monitor the Federal Perkins Loan program.
  • Conduct purchasing activities for departments as necessary.
  • Follow all accounting and internal control systems.
  • Participate in the professional development and cross-training of workers in the Business Operations Unit.
  • Prepare various internal and external reports as needed.
  • Assist in answering the Unit telephone and assist guests.
  • Maintain and comply with all policies, rules, and regulations included in the KCU Staff Handbook.

Requirements

  • Demonstrated knowledge of generally accepted accounting principles.
  • Ability to read and comprehend detailed instructions, correspondence, memos, budget sheets, audit reports, contracts, and various governmental information reporting forms.
  • Ability to clearly write complex correspondence, memos, and reports.
  • Ability to effectively present information in one-on-one and small or large group situations, both personally and over the phone.
  • Ability to understand and carry out instructions furnished in written, oral, or diagram form.
  • Ability to learn and perform all essential job functions accurately with minimal direct supervision within three months after starting work.
  • Ability to maintain confidentiality of information.
  • A bachelor's degree from an accredited four-year college or university is preferred.
  • Two years of related experience and/or training, or an equivalent combination of education and work experience.

Nice-to-haves

  • Knowledge of Abila MIP Fund Accounting software preferred but not mandatory.
  • Proficient in the use of Microsoft Word, Outlook, and PowerPoint.
  • Capacity to use Excel's functions, features, and formulas to organize, analyze, and adjust data.
