About the position

The Staff Accountant - Property Accounting at Welltower Inc is responsible for performing various accounting functions related to operational accounting. This includes managing lease and loan agreements, accounts receivable, fixed assets, and property operating expenses. The role emphasizes account analysis, journal entries, and reconciliations in compliance with U.S. GAAP and company policies, while also identifying opportunities for process improvements and delivering exceptional customer service to internal stakeholders.

Responsibilities

• Perform accounting and financial reporting responsibilities in functional areas such as lease accounting, receivables accounting, and fixed assets.
• Review the setup and maintenance of lease and loan agreements to ensure timely revenue recognition.
• Perform lease classification tests for proper accounting treatment of leases.
• Assist with bad debt review and monitor outstanding accounts receivable.
• Ensure compliance with US GAAP and company policies, including internal controls.
• Document processes and identify opportunities for improvement.
• Promote a collaborative team environment and deliver exceptional customer service to internal customers.
• Prepare and post necessary journal entries to maintain accurate accounting records.
• Monitor and reconcile assigned accounts, maintaining accurate working papers.
• Prepare supporting schedules for external reporting requirements, including SOX documentation.
• Perform key internal controls and assist auditors in testing controls.
• Conduct ad-hoc analysis and other duties as required.

Requirements

• 1-3 years of public or corporate accounting experience is preferred.
• Bachelor's degree in Accounting is required.

Nice-to-haves

• CPA is preferred but not required.
