About the position

The Staff Accountant at SUNY Orange County Community College is responsible for managing the College's bank accounts, reviewing cash activity, and reporting financial balances to Senior Management. This role includes conducting monthly account reconciliations and supporting the Business Office to enhance fiscal oversight and reporting processes. The position operates under general supervision, allowing for some independent judgment within established College policies.

Responsibilities

  • Manage the daily operations of the College's bank accounts.
  • Review cash activity and report book and bank balances to Senior Management.
  • Conduct monthly account reconciliations.
  • Provide support to the Business Office in fiscal oversight and reporting processes.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree or higher in a relevant field.
  • A minimum of three (3) years of experience in public or municipal accounting, internal audits, or an equivalent combination.

Nice-to-haves

  • Proficient in Microsoft Suite, specifically Excel and Word.
  • Excellent verbal/written communication and analytical skills.
  • Project management experience.
  • Experience in community college or higher education.
  • Ability to establish and maintain working relationships with various stakeholders.
  • Ability to perform well under pressure and meet deadlines with accuracy and confidentiality.
  • Ability to present complex information coherently.
  • Bilingual skills.
