About the position

The Staff Accountant at Lutheran Child and Family Services of Illinois is primarily responsible for managing all financial accounting operations, including grants administration and ensuring compliance with policies and procedures. This role requires effective collaboration with various departments and involves overseeing external accounts while providing excellent customer service. The Staff Accountant will also lead high-level projects, manage general ledger transactions, and support the annual budgeting process, among other responsibilities.

Responsibilities

• Manage all financial accounting operations including grants administration.
• Oversee all external accounts and relationships, ensuring excellent customer service.
• Lead high-level projects requiring advanced Excel skills and provide training to non-financial staff.
• Oversee and manage all general ledger and subsidiary journals.
• Reconcile bank accounts, accounts payable, and accounts receivable monthly.
• Process general ledger transactions and post entries to maintain accurate records.
• Reconcile all balance sheet and income statement accounts monthly.
• Manage annual reporting requirements for compliance and accuracy.
• Assist in the annual budgeting process and develop strategic budgets.
• Support the development of financial models and other projects as required.
• Participate in the annual financial audit and additional audits as needed.
• Ensure compliance with GAAP for accurate financial reporting.
• Prepare ad hoc reports and analytics to support the Accounting Manager.
• Perform other duties as assigned.

Requirements

• Bachelor's degree in accounting, finance, or business required.
• Proficiency with accounting and expense management systems such as Sage Intacct, Concur, and/or Ramp is highly desirable.
• Strong Excel skills, including the ability to create graphs and perform statistical analyses.

Nice-to-haves

• Experience in the nonprofit sector is preferred but not required.
