About the position

The Staff Accountant position at the University of South Florida involves managing various accounting functions within the University Controller's Office. The role is essential for ensuring compliance with financial guidelines while providing support for the university's instructional, research, and service missions. The accountant will handle journal entries, reconcile accounts, process invoices, and manage abandoned property requests, contributing to the overall financial integrity of the institution.

Responsibilities

• Upload journal entries into the FAST financial system after reviewing for completeness and appropriateness.
• Initiate and upload wires into banking software, including foreign currency conversions.
• Reconcile general ledger for balance sheet accounts on a monthly basis, assisting with PCard/ SO reimbursement account reconciliation.
• Process monthly requests for payment of abandoned property on behalf of the University system.
• Review and input non-student A/R non-sponsored award customer information into PeopleSoft Accounts Receivable/Billing module.
• Perform monthly tasks related to sales tax collection and prepare documentation for state remittance.
• Review financial information in Finance Mart for accuracy against the General Ledger after monthly closing.

Requirements

• Bachelor's degree in Accounting and one year of related experience, or a Master's degree in Accounting or Business Administration with appropriate coursework.
• 4 years of directly relevant experience may substitute for a bachelor's degree.
• 6 years of directly relevant experience may substitute for a master's degree.

Nice-to-haves

• Master's degree and 3 years of business experience or a combination of education and experience totaling 7 years.
