About the position

The Staff Accountant plays a crucial role in applying GAAP accounting principles to prepare financial reports and analyze financial information. This position is responsible for cash management, financial analysis, and ensuring compliance with accounting standards, while also contributing to the overall financial health of the organization.

Responsibilities

  • Compiles and analyzes financial information to prepare entries to accounts, such as general ledger accounts, documenting business transactions.
  • Performs detailed reconciliation for cash accounts and intercompany loan accounts to ensure balance in the accounting system.
  • Determines cash needs for Single Business Units (SBU's) and performs bank reconciliations.
  • Conducts statistical analyses to determine trends and significant changes, writing narrative reports to explain findings.
  • Performs variance and ratio analysis and presents results to upper management.
  • Prepares balance sheets, profit and loss statements, and other reports to summarize and interpret the company's financial position.
  • Audits contracts, orders, and vouchers, preparing reports to substantiate transactions prior to settlement.
  • Communicates routinely with Project Managers regarding bonding, insurance, and contract agreements.
  • Monitors compliance with GAAP, SAP, and company procedures.
  • Reviews and corrects errors in financial entries, documents, and reports.
  • Implements accounting systems and control procedures, looking for process improvements.
  • Designs and maintains pro formas for contracts to determine pricing and profitability.
  • Prepares federal, state, and local reports and tax returns.

Requirements

  • At least three years of accounting experience.
  • Experience with GAAP accounting.
  • A Bachelor of Science degree in accounting required.
  • Advanced knowledge of Excel required.
  • Experience in QuickBooks preferred.
