About the position

The Staff Accountant is responsible for applying accounting principles and procedures to analyze financial information, prepare accurate and timely financial reports and statements, and ensure appropriate accounting control procedures are followed. This role involves maintaining financial records in compliance with accepted policies and procedures, ensuring data integrity, and resolving accounting discrepancies.

Responsibilities

• Apply accounting principles and procedures to analyze financial information.
• Prepare accurate and timely financial reports and statements.
• Ensure appropriate accounting control procedures are followed.
• Prepare operational data and ensure data integrity and accuracy.
• Conduct monthly general ledger reconciliations and prepare monthly financial statements.
• Perform bank reconciliations, journal entries, and audit schedules.
• Maintain compliance with accepted financial policies and procedures.
• Ensure accurate and timely monthly, quarterly, and year-end close.
• Resolve accounting discrepancies and irregularities.
• Work independently with minimal supervision.
• Accept direction and developmental guidance from supervisor.
• Work effectively with individuals at all levels.
• Perform other duties as assigned.

Requirements

• Knowledge of finance and accounting principles.
• Knowledge of automated financial and accounting reporting systems (Blackbaud Financial Edge NXT).
• Knowledge of federal and state financial regulations.
• Ability to analyze financial data and prepare financial reports, statements, and projections.
• Attention to detail and accuracy.
• Strong communication and analytical skills.
• Ability to plan and organize work.
• Strong judgment and problem-solving ability.
• Proficient in Microsoft Excel, Microsoft Word, and accounting software.
• Bachelor's Degree in Accounting plus two to three years of experience in an entry-level to staff-level accounting position preferred.

Nice-to-haves

• Knowledge of investment reporting and non-profit accounting and reporting preferred.
