About the position

The Staff Accountant position at PlumpJack, Odette and Cade Estate Winery involves managing various accounting functions including accounts payable, accounts receivable, and financial reporting. The role is essential for maintaining accurate financial records and supporting the overall financial health of the winery. The accountant will work closely with the Controller and VP of Finance, contributing to special projects and ensuring compliance with accounting standards.

Responsibilities

  • Prepare bank deposits and record and post AR payments.
  • Assist in the audit of individual Cashier Banks.
  • Administer and balance Winery Petty Cash bank as requested.
  • Assist in reconciliation and follow-up of over/short conditions.
  • Process incoming mail for accounts payable.
  • Route invoices for approval and follow-up.
  • Code and post invoices for accounts payable.
  • Issue AP checks and handle vendor inquiries.
  • Reconcile vendor statements.
  • Prepare and collect courtesy account bills for accounts receivable.
  • Process and collect employee deduction receivables.
  • Handle returned checks and credit card collections.
  • Prepare the weekly Sales Flash report and supporting sales statistics.
  • Prepare recurring and non-recurring journal entries as assigned.
  • Assist in the preparation of notes to the financial statements.
  • Conduct balance sheet account analysis as assigned.
  • Perform various other functions as assigned by the Controller or VP of Finance.

Requirements

  • A college degree in accounting or equivalent professional experience required.
  • A minimum of 1 year work experience in Winery/Hospitality Accounting or a related field.
  • Moderate level of proficiency in Microsoft Word and Excel required.
  • Moderate level of proficiency in ADP Workforce Now is a plus.
  • Strong verbal communication skills with a diplomatic and calm demeanor.
  • Courteous, friendly, and professional manner.
  • Good team player with a customer service focus.
  • Ability to work productively with little supervision.
  • Trustworthy and reliable with good judgment.
  • Strong understanding of core accounting concepts and data entry with high attention to detail.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills are a must.
  • Versatility and flexibility in handling tasks.
