About the position

The Staff ADAS Perception Systems Design Engineer at General Motors is a pivotal role focused on developing and validating advanced driver-assistance systems (ADAS) to support the company's vision of zero crashes, zero emissions, and zero congestion. This position involves leading the generation of system requirements and performance criteria for perception systems, ensuring that all aspects of ADAS are effectively integrated and executed across various programs.

Responsibilities

  • Design requirements for perception systems related to object detection and tracking across multiple sensor domains (camera, radars, LiDAR, Ultrasonics, etc).
  • Generate, write, and maintain system-level requirements based on vehicle operational design domain (ODD) and use cases.
  • Create acceptance test plans (ATP) requirements and DFMEA documentation.
  • Provide technical leadership to execution teams including capability engineers and hardware engineers for development and integration.
  • Define comprehensive design analysis of design solutions and communicate best practices among the system/software community.
  • Analyze and negotiate requirements with stakeholders and trace their implementation throughout product development.
  • Develop and maintain technical documentation and system/subsystem specifications using tools like DNG, X-ray, Raphsody, Jira, and Jama.
  • Support HiL/Mil/SiL capabilities and partner with software, integration, and validation teams to ensure effective communication of system designs.
  • Develop strategic plans for global performance requirements and ensure metrics are in place to meet customer expectations.
  • Lead FMEA and allocate identified failure modes to execution teams.
  • Participate in cross-functional development team discussions to ensure alignment with peers and downstream customers.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Computer Science, or a related field.
  • Minimum 4 years of relevant job-related engineering experience.
  • Demonstrated leadership skills with the ability to lead a technical team.
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills, with the ability to make engineering decisions based on data.
  • Hands-on experience with system engineering requirement databases (e.g., DNG, X-Ray, Jama, DOORS).
  • Understanding of perception software techniques that enable automated driving technology.
  • Ability to manage multiple priorities and identify optimal solutions.

Nice-to-haves

  • Master of Science in Engineering or Master of Business Administration.
  • Previous experience (4+ years) as a systems engineer in AV/ADAS perception environments.
  • Proven collaboration with software, integration, and validation teams for complex software products.
  • Understanding of Ultrasonics, Radar, Camera, and LiDAR sensing modalities.
  • Minimum 10 years of relevant job-related engineering experience.
  • DFSS Black Belt Certification.
