About the position

The Staff Assistant position at the Department of the Treasury involves overseeing assigned program area projects, conducting special studies, and providing administrative support to ensure effective operations within the Taxpayer Services Division. The role requires analytical skills to assess administrative procedures and recommend actions, while also maintaining confidentiality regarding employee relations materials.

Responsibilities

  • Oversees assigned BOD program area projects assigned by the supervisor.
  • Performs special studies and research projects requiring expertise and mature judgment.
  • Develops and analyzes facts needed and recommends actions on particular matters.
  • Reviews and summarizes information from various sources for the supervisor's use.
  • Participates in planning and conducting studies of administrative programs and operations.
  • Reviews and prepares reports for the assigned supervisor.
  • Provides feedback on the formulation of policies and procedures governing administrative aspects within the program office.
  • Assesses the need for and adapts administrative procedures and practices as necessary.
  • Keeps the supervisor informed of developments and progress concerning problems.
  • Maintains files and/or records containing confidential employee/labor relations materials.

Requirements

  • One year of specialized experience equivalent to the GS-07 grade level in the Federal service, including planning and conducting studies of administrative programs.
  • Experience managing administrative assignments and monitoring HR activities.
  • Experience using analytical techniques to perform analyses of data and recommend actions.
  • Experience exercising control over a supervisor's calendar and making travel arrangements.

Nice-to-haves

  • Master's or equivalent graduate degree in a relevant field.
  • Two years of progressively higher-level graduate education leading to a graduate degree.
