In this position, the Staff Associate will engage in spiritual development by creating a personal growth plan that fosters a vibrant spiritual life, including prayer, reflection, and active participation in a church community. The individual will also lead teams and individuals in spiritual development, ensuring that the Young Life community thrives spiritually. Leadership development is another critical aspect of this role. The Staff Associate will be responsible for recruiting and training new leaders, building a leadership team that reflects the community, and modeling excellence in various ministry activities such as contact work, club, Campaigners, and camping. Regular meetings with volunteer leaders and area leadership will be essential to ensure effective team building and vision casting. Resource development involves raising financial support, maintaining good donor care practices, and networking with key adults in the community. The Staff Associate will communicate ministry updates to personal donor partners and plan fundraising events under the guidance of an area supervisor. Direct ministry responsibilities include engaging in contact work, leading teams to conduct Young Life clubs, and implementing camping strategies. The Staff Associate will also serve at a Young Life camp each summer, furthering their direct ministry experience. The position also entails ministry support functions, such as adhering to Young Life policies, managing finances with transparency, maintaining accurate records, and providing professional communication. The Staff Associate will set yearly strategic ministry plans and review them regularly to ensure the ministry reaches every kid in the community. Training is a vital component of this role, with core training phases to be completed within the first two years. This training will enhance personal spiritual maturity and character development, supervised by regional directors or trainers. The ideal candidate will have a college degree, experience in direct ministry, proven relational skills, and strong communication abilities. The work conditions may include extremes typical of camp environments, such as heat, cold, and physical demands like hiking and boating. The Greater Whittier area serves a diverse population, and the Staff Associate will be instrumental in creating a new middle school program, focusing on developing volunteer leaders and establishing connections with schools and community leaders.

Responsibilities

Requirements

  • Experience in direct ministry.
  • Proven relational skills with both kids and adults.
  • Demonstrated verbal and written communication skills.
