About the position

The Staff Attorney for Housing at Community Legal Aid (CLA) will provide legal assistance to low-income and elderly residents in central and western Massachusetts, focusing on landlord-tenant law. This role involves representing tenants in eviction cases, assisting with public and subsidized housing issues, and engaging in community outreach and education. The position requires a collaborative approach and strong interpersonal skills, with a commitment to serving diverse communities.

Responsibilities

• Represent tenants in eviction cases.
• Assist tenants facing denials or terminations from public and subsidized housing programs.
• Handle other housing-related legal matters.
• Participate in the Housing Court lawyer-for-the-day program.
• Engage in community outreach and education activities.
• Work closely with community partners to provide effective legal assistance.

Requirements

• Law students in their third year, recent law school graduates, and experienced attorneys are eligible to apply.
• Experience in landlord-tenant law is preferred.
• Fluency in Spanish is preferred.
• Demonstrated experience working with diverse communities.
• Strong interpersonal skills and ability to work collaboratively.

Nice-to-haves

• Experience in civil legal assistance.
• Knowledge of housing law and regulations.
