About the position

The Staff Civil Engineering Technician will operate, maintain, and repair specialized pavement data collection equipment for highway infrastructure assessment, supporting ARA's contract with the Florida DOT State Materials Office. This role requires travel throughout the state and involves both fieldwork and office-based activities, including equipment maintenance and data processing. Training will be provided for those without previous pavement testing experience.

Responsibilities

  • Operate specialized pavement data collection equipment for highway infrastructure assessment.
  • Maintain and repair pavement testing equipment as needed.
  • Perform office-based activities such as equipment maintenance and data processing when not traveling.
  • Travel throughout the state for data collection and testing activities.

Requirements

  • Must be at least 21 years old with an excellent driving record.
  • Basic computer knowledge, including Microsoft Word or Google documents.
  • Mechanical ability, with previous mechanical experience preferred.
  • Willingness to travel, sometimes for a week or more at a time.

Nice-to-haves

  • Previous experience operating pavement testing equipment (e.g., pavement profiler, falling weight deflectometer).
  • Experience performing routine inspections and troubleshooting issues with automobiles or related specialized equipment.
