The Staff Cloud Engineer will play a pivotal role in this mission by serving as a technical subject matter expert and individual contributor. This position is accountable for leading the organizational transformation in onboarding various data consumption and business intelligence tools into Google Cloud. The Staff Cloud Engineer will ensure that cloud tool enablement, solutioning, and implementation are successful by leveraging expertise in Google Cloud security, networking, access management, and authentication best practices. In this role, the Staff Cloud Engineer will lead the onboarding and enablement of tools, covering design, cloud architecture, and best practices. They will create and propose cloud engineering solution concepts related to tool enablement, addressing topics such as Google Cloud security, networking, access, and authentication best practices. Acting as a cloud generalist, the engineer will partner with the enterprise cloud engineering group to ensure that proposed solutions meet existing policy requirements and best practices. Collaboration with security and compliance teams is essential to ensure that solutions adhere to industry best practices and regulatory requirements. The Staff Cloud Engineer will also lead Proof of Concept activities for new tools and new patterns involved with tool enablement. Staying current with emerging data technologies, trends, and best practices is crucial, as is making recommendations for their adoption within the organization's cloud tool ecosystem. Additionally, this role includes mentoring and providing technical guidance to junior team members, fostering a culture of knowledge sharing and continuous learning. Full-time remote work will be considered for this role.

Responsibilities

  • Lead the onboarding and enablement of tools, covering design, cloud architecture, and best practices.
  • Create and propose cloud engineering solution concepts related to tool enablement.
  • Act as a cloud generalist for all topics related to tool enablement and strategy.
  • Partner with the enterprise cloud engineering group to ensure proposed solutions meet existing policy requirements and best practices.
  • Propose solutions accepted by the enterprise cloud security, networking, and IAM groups.
  • Collaborate with security and compliance teams to ensure solutions adhere to industry best practices and regulatory requirements.
  • Lead Proof of Concept activities for new tools and new patterns involved with tool enablement.
  • Keep up to date with emerging data technologies, trends, and best practices, and make recommendations for their adoption.
  • Mentor and provide technical guidance to junior team members.

Requirements

  • At least 7 years of experience in Cloud Engineering, preferably in a senior or lead capacity.
  • 5+ years leading solution architecture initiatives in public clouds.
  • Bachelor's degree or equivalent work experience in computer science, data science, or a related field.

Nice-to-haves

  • Google Cloud Associate or Professional Certification
  • Strong understanding of best practices related to security, networking, and connectivity in public clouds.
  • Ability to create clear and concise solution concept diagrams.
  • Strong problem-solving and analytical skills.
  • Excellent general communication and collaboration skills.
